Improved Listening Solutions for Class Rooms

Courtrooms present special hearing challenges. It is imperiative that all participants have an equal ability to listen to the proceedings. This includes defendants, family of defendants, jurors and all interested parties in the audience.

Privacy - What happens in the courtroom should stay in the courtroom. Unlike FM broadcast systems, audio signals will not pass through walls with an infrared assistive listening device. This will insure privacy.

Sound Quality - Infrared is not subject to outside interference such as police or fire calls, or anybody else broadcasting on FM. You are assured of the highest sound quality.

Make every courtroom "Hearing Friendly"

Portability - This system is compact and completely portable. One system can be used in different courtrooms, eliminating the expense of installing "hard-wired" systems in every courtroom. The SC-186k offers a low cost solution to your ADA obligation.

Mute Switch - Sometimes not all information is intended for the audience, such as sidebars and private conversations. The SC-186k provides an optional remote mute switch, which will silence the system at the touch of a button.

360 Emitter Disk - The SC-186K can broadcast to everybody placed in front of the unit, but sometimes a hard of hearing person may be listening from the side or even behind the unit (i.e. jury member, judge). The 360 Emitter Disk will broadcast 360 degrees to reach everyone who needs hearing assistance. It is easily attached to the top of the unit when needed.

Interpreter microphone input - Is there a need to broadcast to a defendant and interested parties in a second language? The microphone input can act as a primary source or along with the built-in survellience microphne.

The SC-186Kx2

is a specialized 2 channel version of our flagship model SC-186K. The two independent infrared transmission channels optically broadcast the same audio with one important distinction.

  • For hearing disabled users listening under Americans With Disabilities Act requirements, the judge or clerk can mute the audio heard by the listener on one channel during sidebars or other private discussions, as with the single channel model SC-186K.

  • For defendants and other trial participants who must be given audio access to the same sidebars and private discussions, the second channel will never be muted even when the same audio is muted on the first channel for a juror or other listener. This complies with recent court rulings about the rights of defendants to hear sidebar discussions.
